Indian entrepreneurs Kushal Sinha and Piyush Kumar are reshaping the education landscape in the United States with their cutting-edge platform, LearnQ.ai. Based in Chicago, the startup leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to enhance learning experiences. At the heart of LearnQ.ai lies VEGA (Virtual Entity for Guidance and Assistance), a specialized AI assistant that supports both educators and students.
Inspired by how companies like Google and Meta use data for performance analytics, Sinha and Kumar envisioned a data-driven education system. Their goal was to develop an AI-powered teaching assistant that not only aids teachers but also empowers institutions to improve efficiency and student outcomes.
VEGA, the AI tutor, utilizes real-time data to provide personalized recommendations, insights, and support. "AI is deeply integrated into our platform, consuming vast amounts of data to provide actionable intelligence for educators," said Sinha, an alumnus of IIT Guwahati.
Rather than tackling a wide array of educational challenges, the duo focused on a specific use case—the SAT exam, a critical test for undergraduate admissions in the U.S. This targeted approach allowed them to refine their platform and demonstrate its effectiveness.
LearnQ.ai has recently expanded its features, enabling users to create and deploy custom courses. By the end of the rollout, educators will be able to build tailored courses, track student interactions, and provide valuable data for further optimization through VEGA.
Unlike traditional AI tutors, VEGA integrates real-time student data to create a detailed knowledge graph. This graph captures information from interactions, quizzes, assessments, and chat history, tailoring guidance to individual learning levels.
Kumar, a former home tutor and co-founder, explained, “VEGA is not just a wrapper around a large language model; it’s an agentic AI system that combines data from multiple streams to deliver actionable insights.”
This personalized approach caters to both self-motivated learners and those needing extra support, making VEGA more than just another AI tutor.
LearnQ.ai’s adaptability has enabled diverse use cases. From advanced placement (AP) courses to niche topics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, the platform supports a wide range of content. Prestigious institutions like The Doon School in India have adopted LearnQ.ai for K-12 education, and discussions are underway with major organizations like Allen in India.
The founders believe earlier ed-tech platforms like Coursera and Udemy focused more on accessibility than efficiency. While these platforms provided access to content, they often lacked personalized learning experiences and struggled to replace traditional methods.
LearnQ.ai bridges this gap by prioritizing efficiency and data-driven insights. “We’re solving for efficiency in education,” Sinha emphasized, highlighting the platform’s ability to adapt to individual learning journeys.
